Autumn in Vysočina: mushrooms, colour and calm by the water

When the holidays end, Vysočina only starts showing its best side. Colourful forests, quiet after the tourists, and baskets full of mushrooms. Autumn may be the loveliest time for a few calm days at the House on the Water.
Mushrooming right behind the house
The house is surrounded by forests you can walk into straight from the door. Vysočina is rich in mushrooms: porcini, boletes and more. Head out in the morning with a basket and a knife, and in the afternoon you fry up what you found on the terrace.
Colour and calm after the season
In September and October the trees turn and the pond falls silent. With no summer crowds the whole area is yours. Morning mist over the water, long afternoon shadows, and the hot tub under the stars in the evening.
What to do in autumn
- A walk to the ruins of Janštejn castle just beyond the village.
- A trip to Renaissance Telč, free of queues in autumn.
- The Finnish sauna and hot tub once it turns cold.
