Where to find us: Batelov, Telč and the heart of Vysočina

The House on the Water sits by the village of Nová Ves near Batelov, in the heart of the Vysočina highlands, in a triangle between the towns of Telč, Pelhřimov and Jihlava. Far from the noise, yet close to the places people come to Vysočina for.

Where exactly the house is

You will find us in seclusion by a pond near Batelov, on the border of Bohemia and Moravia. Around you, only forest, water and quiet. The nearest towns, Telč, Jihlava and Pelhřimov, are all within half an hour by car.

Telč, a Renaissance UNESCO gem (16 km)

Our most famous neighbour. The square of Zachariáš of Hradec, lined with colourful houses, earned Telč a place on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Add the Telč chateau, the underground passages, the Oslednice lookout tower and the Laguna swimming lake. A perfect half-day trip.

Janštejn castle ruins (5 km, 30 minutes on foot)

Just beyond the village of Nová Ves, hidden in the woods, stand the Gothic ruins of Janštejn castle, built in the 14th century by the House of Luxembourg. You can walk there straight from the house, an ideal morning stroll.

Jihlava and Pelhřimov for a full day out

• Jihlava (26 km), a zoo, the second-largest underground network in the country, the Vodní ráj water park.
• Pelhřimov (22 km), the Museum of Records and Curiosities and the lookout on Křemešník hill.

What to do in each season

In summer, paddleboarding and swimming straight from the jetty; in spring and autumn, cycling the greenway from Jihlava to Třebíč and mushrooming in the surrounding forests. In winter, cross-country ski tracks run practically from the door, and downhill slopes wait at the Šacberk ski area (~25 km).

How to get here

By car is easiest: you are 25 minutes from Jihlava or Telč, about 2 hours from Prague and an hour and a half from Brno. Exact directions and on-site parking come with your booking confirmation.
